Wit, Gerard De
Christmas Carols
The repertoire for this CD is a selection out of a richness of compositions from the renaissance (until ca. 1600) and the baroque era (until ca. 1750), written for Advent, Christmas and the Epiphany. Organist, harpsichordist and conductor Gerard de Wit made a beautiful program of music by famous composers such as J.S. Bach, D. Buxtehude and J. G. Walther, G. F. Handel, but also lesser-known composers such as M. Weckmann, J.A. Guilain and D. Zippoli. Unique are the earliest keyboard compositions for four hands, of T. Tomkins and N. Carlton. Along with two pieces from the Messiah by G. F. Handel, in one version of the 18th century, played with organist Pietro Paganini.
